Fiserv, Inc. (NASDAQ: FISV) announced that its digital asset platform is live with financial institution clients, with Bank of North Dakota's Roughrider Coin serving as the first active use case on the platform.
Roughrider Coin is a dollar-backed stablecoin designed to facilitate interbank money movement across North Dakota. VersaBank acts as the issuer and provides custody services, including minting, burning and reserve asset management. Fireblocks is providing digital asset infrastructure and tokenization services, and transactions are processed on the Solana blockchain.
More than 90 banks and credit unions in North Dakota will access Roughrider Coin through Commercial Center, Fiserv's existing commercial online banking system. Bank of North Dakota is using the platform's issuance, reserve, custody and settlement infrastructure to deploy the stablecoin across banking and payments workflows in the state.
"By moving from concept to production with leading institutions, we are helping clients unlock new efficiencies in banking and payments while maintaining the trust, security and regulatory standards they expect," said Sunil Sachdev, Head of Embedded Finance and Digital Assets at Fiserv.
According to the press release, the Fiserv Digital Asset Platform is also designed to support stablecoin card issuance, cross-border payments, programmable commerce, treasury automation, tokenized deposits and global currency account services.
