D-Wave launches gate-model quantum simulator beta with select partners

October 1, 2026 7:01 AM EDT

D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NASDAQ: QBTS) has launched a beta program for its gate-model quantum computing simulator, giving select customers early access ahead of general availability, according to a press release from the company.

The simulator is built around D-Wave's dual-rail superconducting gate-model technology, which is designed to use error detection to deliver quantum error correction with lower hardware overhead as systems scale. Beta participants include BBVA, FirstQFM, Florida Atlantic University and the Jülich Supercomputing Centre.

The simulator is accessible through D-Wave's Leap quantum cloud service and Ocean SDK. D-Wave also plans to offer development bundles combining simulator access, future gate-model system access and expert guidance.

A foundational element of the dual-rail architecture was validated in peer-reviewed research published in Nature, which demonstrated a fast, high-fidelity two-qubit entangling gate designed to preserve the architecture's error-detection properties.

"Quantum error correction is a defining challenge in the race to commercially useful gate-model quantum computing," said Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave. "By giving leading organizations early access to our simulator, we're enabling them to explore a fundamentally more efficient approach to fault tolerance and the applications we expect it will unlock."

Beta participants described planned use cases including portfolio optimization, fraud detection and derivatives valuation at BBVA, and quantum machine learning research at Florida Atlantic University. The Jülich Supercomputing Centre said it plans to contribute insights to support development of D-Wave's future gate-model systems.
