Sherwin-Williams opens expanded North Carolina plant, its largest in N. America

September 30, 2026 4:20 PM EDT

Sherwin-Williams (NYSE: SHW) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 30 to mark the opening of its expanded architectural paint and coatings manufacturing facility in Statesville, North Carolina, which the company says is now its largest plant in North America.

The expansion added nearly 50,000 square feet of improvements to the site, including expanded production space, automation enhancements, four new rail spurs and related infrastructure. Sherwin-Williams has operated at the Statesville location since 1993.

"With expanded production space, new rail infrastructure and greater automation, this facility gives us more flexibility and efficiency in how we manufacture and move products across our global supply network," said Heidi Petz, Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sherwin-Williams.

The expanded facility is intended to support a nearby distribution service center that connects production, transportation and distribution to the company's broader operations. The project involved a public-private partnership with the state of North Carolina, Iredell County and the City of Statesville, which approved incentives in support of the expansion.

North Carolina Lt. Governor Rachel Hunt, Statesville Mayor Doug Hendrix, U.S. Senator Ted Budd and U.S. Representative Pat Harrigan participated in the ceremony, either in person or via video.
