Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE) announced a $1.2 billion order from Vultr to deploy AMD Helios AI Rack by HPE systems at Vultr's data center locations in the United States.
The deal marks HPE's first order for the AMD Helios system, which integrates 72 AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs with AMD EPYC "Venice" CPUs, AMD Pensando Vulcano AI NICs, and AMD ROCm software per rack. Each rack also includes six HPE Juniper Networking QFX5252 scale-up Ethernet switch trays designed to connect all 72 GPUs using standards-based Ethernet.
The AMD Helios system was designed for trillion-parameter model training and high-volume inference workloads. It supports open, interoperable rack-scale fabrics such as UALink over Ethernet and incorporates direct liquid cooling.
"Demand for high-performance AI infrastructure continues to outpace available capacity, and our work with AMD and HPE enables us to bring Helios rack-scale compute and scale-up networking online for customers faster," said J.J. Kardwell, CEO of Vultr.
Antonio Neri, president and CEO of HPE, said the system demonstrates HPE's ability to deliver rack-scale compute, scale-up networking, and direct liquid cooling through its global services organization.
The order builds on a collaboration between Vultr and Juniper Networks that began nearly three years ago. Juniper Networks is now part of HPE following an acquisition.
The AMD Helios AI Rack by HPE is part of HPE's AI Data Center Solutions portfolio, which the company describes as built on open standards.
