FMC Corporation (NYSE: FMC) has submitted a regulatory dossier for rimisoxafen to Brazilian authorities, marking the second global filing for the herbicide following a submission to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in July 2026.
Rimisoxafen is classified by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee under Groups 12 and 32, making it what FMC describes as the first dual mode of action herbicide. The compound has not yet been registered for sale or use in Brazil or any other country.
Brazil has approximately 50 million hectares of soybean and more than 20 million hectares of corn in production. Growers there face resistance pressure from broadleaf weeds including Amaranthus hybridus, which has developed resistance to glyphosate and acetolactate synthase inhibitors, and Amaranthus palmeri, classified as a regulated quarantine weed.
In FMC field testing, rimisoxafen showed activity against small seeded broadleaf weeds and those resistant to other herbicides, including both Amaranthus species.
"Brazilian growers are facing complex weed resistance challenges that demand new and differentiated solutions," said Leonardo Bastos, vice president and chief marketing officer at FMC.
Rimisoxafen is the third novel herbicide active ingredient FMC has submitted for regulatory review in Brazil, following Isoflex active and Dodhylex active. Formulated product submissions are expected to follow as the regulatory process advances. Timing and outcomes remain subject to regulatory review and approval.
