Wolfspeed, Inc. (NYSE: WOLF) announced the commercial availability of its Premium 200 mm n-type silicon carbide substrate, expanding the company's existing 200 mm materials portfolio.
According to the company, the new substrate is designed to reduce defects and improve wafer-shape stability, which the company says translates into higher yield for silicon carbide device manufacturers. The product delivers fewer than 0.01 micropipes per square centimeter, or fewer than three micropipes per wafer, as validated by X-ray topography using what Wolfspeed describes as an industry-standard method.
"We're giving customers a stronger foundation for developing increasingly demanding silicon carbide devices, backed by the manufacturing experience and scale to support them as needs grow," said Dr. Cengiz Balkas, EVP of the Materials Business Unit at Wolfspeed.
Wolfspeed states that the substrate's wafer quality is compatible with customers' existing epitaxy processes, requiring no modifications. The company's 200 mm manufacturing operations have been in continuous production since 2022.
The product is available for order now, with dedicated capacity in place at the company's large-scale silicon carbide manufacturing facility.
