September 25, 2026 8:01 AM EDT

CoreCivic, Inc. (NYSE: CXW) announced that its board of directors has appointed Lucibeth N. Mayberry as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective September 25, 2026. Patrick D. Swindle resigned from the role due to a diagnosis of stage four metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Swindle had served as President and CEO since January 1, 2026, having previously been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer on January 1, 2025. He also resigned from CoreCivic's board of directors. Mayberry has been appointed to fill that vacancy as well.

Swindle said in a statement that Mayberry is "one of the most capable and principled leaders I know," adding that he worked closely with her for 19 years on strategic matters. He said he will continue as a special advisor during the transition.

Mayberry has been with CoreCivic since May 2003. She most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer since May 2025. Before that, she held the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer from October 2022 to May 2025, and Executive Vice President of Real Estate from May 2015 to October 2022.

Mayberry holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee, a juris doctor from Vanderbilt University, and a Master of Laws degree in taxation from the University of Florida.

In a statement, Mayberry said she is "fully committed to continuing the current capital allocation strategy, maintaining our focus on operational excellence."

Board chair Mark Emkes said the board recognizes Mayberry's "significant leadership and the trust she has earned across the organization" and that she has "the full confidence of the Board to lead CoreCivic forward."
