Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, a unit of AstraZeneca (NASDAQ: AZN), will present 15 abstracts at the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine Annual Meeting and the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America Scientific Session in Orlando, Florida, from September 29 to October 2, 2026.
Key presentations will include new 52-week data from the PREVAIL Phase III trial evaluating gefurulimab, a subcutaneous self-administered C5 inhibitor, in adults with anti-acetylcholine receptor antibody-positive generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG).
Open-label extension data from PREVAIL showed that patients receiving gefurulimab maintained clinical improvements through 52 weeks across three measures: Myasthenia Gravis Activities of Daily Living, Quantitative Myasthenia Gravis, and Myasthenia Gravis Composite scores. Patients who switched from placebo to gefurulimab at week 26 saw improvements at their first post-switch assessment, sustained through week 52. Gefurulimab was described as well-tolerated, with no meningococcal infections reported.
A post-hoc analysis of PREVAIL data indicated that patients receiving gefurulimab showed response as early as week one, with minimal symptom expression sustained through 52 weeks.
An oral presentation will share data showing reduced risks of gMG-related hospitalizations and rescue therapy use with gefurulimab at week 26 compared to placebo.
Additional presentations will cover preclinical data examining a translational biomarker platform combining nerve-evoked muscle function assessments with neuromuscular junction morphology analysis in a rodent model of MG. In this model, C5 inhibition was associated with partial recovery of neuromuscular junction structure and muscle function.
Separate presentations will include data on ravulizumab from the global MG SPOTLIGHT registry and the Phase 4 Octagon study evaluating oral corticosteroid tapering in gMG patients treated with ravulizumab.
