Cognizant and Cognition report 37% cost saving in Odyssey Logistics AI project

September 23, 2026 7:02 AM EDT

Cognizant (Nasdaq: CTSH) and Cognition announced production results from an autonomous AI engineering engagement at Odyssey Logistics, reporting a 37% net cost saving compared to a conventional modernization approach, according to a company press release.

The project involved rebuilding Odyssey Logistics' transportation management platform, which had relied on legacy Microsoft Access and Visual Basic for Applications forms. A seven-person Cognizant team used Cognition's AI software engineer, Devin, to convert the legacy system into cloud-native applications, generating tests, deployment pipelines and documentation alongside the code. Every change was reviewed by a Cognizant technical lead or architect before being merged.

Odyssey Logistics is a global multimodal logistics provider with a freight network of more than $3 billion. The company's CIO and CDO, Maneet Singh, said the engagement provided "a practical, governed path to production, with clear accountability around every change."

Delivery throughput rose by roughly one third during the project. The current phase is live and the program is continuing.

Prior to the main engagement, Odyssey tested the approach on a separate standalone legacy application, which was completed 21 days after kickoff.

Cognizant and Cognition entered their AI engineering collaboration in January 2026. Cognizant states it has trained more than 3,000 associates on the Devin platform. Based on Cognizant internal data, Devin has cut time to release-ready code by more than 50% and accelerated greenfield development five to six times.

The two companies have developed a combined set of offerings, including a modernization and upgrade offering, a quality engineering offering, and a Frontier AI Cyber Defense offering. Both companies said they intend to explore extending their collaboration across security remediation, AI assurance, observability-driven application maintenance, legacy modernization and greenfield software development.
