Firefly Aerospace (Nasdaq: FLY) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 22 to mark the completion of a new cleanroom facility at its Cedar Park, Texas campus, according to a company press release.
The new cleanroom is four times the size of Firefly's existing cleanroom and is part of the company's 144,000-square-foot campus. Together, the two cleanrooms are designed to support simultaneous assembly of up to 12 lunar landers and orbital vehicles. Both facilities carry an ISO Class 8 rating for contamination control.
The Texas Space Commission provided grant funding for the new facility through its Space Enterprise and Research Fund. Representatives from the Texas Space Commission, NASA's Moon Base Program, and the Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative attended the ceremony.
"This new cleanroom represents a major step forward in making the Moon more accessible with reliable, high-cadence spacecraft for our government and commercial customers," said Ramon Sanchez, COO at Firefly Aerospace.
Firefly currently has five additional lunar missions under contract for its Blue Ghost landers and Elytra orbiters following its Blue Ghost Mission 1. The company also holds two spacecraft contracts with the Defense Innovation Unit covering space domain awareness and deorbit services.
