Valens Semiconductor (NYSE: VLN) announced a collaboration agreement with onsemi to develop a cost-optimized integrated sensor targeting high-volume 3-megapixel automotive camera applications, according to a press release dated Sept. 22, 2026.
Under the agreement, Valens will work with onsemi to integrate a MIPI A-PHY connectivity offering into onsemi's image sensors. The collaboration is aimed at giving automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers a path to adopting the MIPI A-PHY standard.
Yoram Salinger, CEO of Valens Semiconductor, said the integrated offering "complements Valens' existing solutions, bringing A-PHY to a much broader range of use cases," and that collaborating with onsemi strengthens the ecosystem by giving "automakers the supplier choice they expect from an industry standard."
Ahmed Salem, Vice President and General Manager of the Intelligent Sensing Group at onsemi, said the collaboration aims to enable "a more streamlined camera architecture that reduces component count, supports industry standards, and ultimately makes advanced vision systems easier to deploy."
The majority of automotive image sensors target the 1–3MP resolution range. The companies said a 3MP offering addresses both an established market and a growing upgrade opportunity as OEMs migrate toward higher resolutions.
MIPI A-PHY is a standard for high-speed sensor connectivity in the automotive industry. Valens has previously announced design wins with multiple OEMs for its VA7000 MIPI A-PHY chipsets.
