Jacobs (NYSE: J) has been awarded a contract by Bundesgesellschaft für Endlagerung mbH (BGE), Germany's federal radioactive waste disposal company, to provide project support services for the Konrad Repository in Salzgitter, Germany, according to a press release.
The Konrad Repository is described as Germany's first final repository for low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste approved under nuclear law. The facility involves converting an existing mine to meet nuclear and mining regulatory requirements.
Under the contract, Jacobs will assess construction progress, validate planning assumptions, review and update schedules and cost plans, and develop efficiency improvements to support project delivery.
BGE Technical Managing Director Jürgen Korth said: "We appreciate that we have found very experienced senior advisors with expertise in construction management and schedule management over a public tender offer. They support our team in the implementation of our very challenging project."
The project involves complex technical requirements including work within existing structures, seismic considerations, and compliance with both mining and nuclear regulations.
Jacobs employs more than 300 people across Germany and has previously supported nuclear-related programs in Europe, including work at the Sellafield site in the United Kingdom and radioactive waste projects in Belgium.
