Raymond James analyst David Feaster initiates coverage on Western Alliance Bancorporation (NYSE: WAL) with a Outperform rating and a price target of $90.00.
The analyst comments "We initiate coverage of Western Alliance Bancorporation (WAL) with an Outperform rating and $90 price target. Credit remains the central debate, and execution will ultimately determine the magnitude of upside, but we believe the current valuation discounts a materially worse credit outcome than current trends and historical experience suggest. Importantly, we do not need pristine credit—or multiple expansion—for shares to work. Stabilizing credit performance should allow WAL’s underlying earnings power to resurface and drive solid EPS/PPNR/TBV growth, creating attractive returns through fundamental compounding alone. Meanwhile, a materially stronger post-2023 balance sheet and management’s deliberate moderation in growth should reduce incremental risk, ease funding pressure, create room to optimize the deposit base and improve profitability, while freeing additional capital for repurchases. In our view, WAL’s differentiated organic growth model, improving funding mix and increasing capital return create a path to attractive per-share compounding, while cleaner credit and more consistent execution provide the catalyst for a re-rating over time."
