September 21, 2026 9:16 AM EDT

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced a $1.9 billion investment in its Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program for 2027, according to a company statement. The investment is expected to raise the national average pay for Delivery Associates to nearly $24 per hour, an increase of roughly $1 per hour.

Amazon said serious vehicle crashes across its delivery network dropped more than 23% last year. Since 2022, the company has invested more than $543 million in safety initiatives for DSP owners and their teams.

New safety technology being rolled out includes surround-view cameras on Rivian electric delivery vehicles, which identify vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians from multiple directions. Amazon said the cameras will be installed in 50% of its Rivian fleet by the end of this year. The company is also adding dynamic hazard alerts and automatic route adjustments to its delivery app.

Amazon's AI mapping tool, called Wellspring, has identified 202 million parking locations, mapped 2.8 million building entrances, and cataloged 85,000 mailrooms and lockers since 2024. The company also plans to expand its AI-powered Smart Delivery Glasses to more than 20,000 devices in the field by the end of 2027.

Amazon said it is committing $70 million over the next five years toward community initiatives led by DSP owners. Through its Amazon Local Good program, DSPs completed 4,800 delivery routes in 2025, distributing over 8 million essential items and more than 4 million meals to nonprofits at no cost.

The company said total investment in the DSP program has reached $21.7 billion over the eight-year history of the program. Over the past three years, Amazon said its investments have helped DSP owners increase driver pay by an average of 16% nationwide.
