PrePass and Kodiak AI (Nasdaq: KDK) announced a collaboration to integrate inspection data from Kodiak's autonomous trucks into existing state roadside screening and enforcement systems, according to a press release dated Sept. 21, 2026.
The initiative launched in Texas and Louisiana, connecting Enhanced Inspection information from Kodiak's autonomous trucks with enforcement personnel through the PrePass platform. The inspections are conducted by Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA)-trained inspectors, who verify that an autonomous commercial vehicle is free of safety defects before driverless operations begin. A successful inspection remains valid for up to 24 hours.
The collaboration does not alter the CVSA's Enhanced Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection Program process but makes resulting inspection data available through established roadside screening systems. PrePass operates a network spanning more than 580 inspection and screening locations nationwide.
"The next barrier to scaling driverless trucking isn't inside the truck. It's the infrastructure around it," said Chas Wurster, Chief Technology Officer of PrePass.
Don Burnette, founder and CEO of Kodiak AI, said the collaboration "enables us to provide critical information to commercial vehicle enforcement agencies, maintain compliance with safety requirements and scale the Kodiak Driver across the United States."
CVSA Executive Director Collin Mooney said inspection and enforcement processes "must evolve" alongside advancing commercial vehicle technologies "while maintaining a strong focus on transportation safety."
Kodiak AI has stated it plans to launch driverless commercial vehicle operations on public highways by the end of 2026. The company currently operates its autonomous driving system in long-haul trucking, industrial trucking, and defense sectors.
