Hudson Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: HDSN) has signed a joint development agreement with Icorium Company to commercialize Icorium's patented extractive distillation technology for refrigerant separation, according to a press release.
The agreement gives Hudson dedicated access to Icorium's engineering resources and intellectual property related to refrigerant separation, along with exclusivity and first-mover advantages during an initial commercialization period. Hudson will also receive early access to additional separation technologies that the company said may create opportunities in new markets.
The technology uses ionic liquid-based extractive distillation to process complex refrigerant mixtures, including azeotropes, into their core components. Hudson said the capability could allow contractors to combine refrigerants in cylinders, reducing onsite recovery time and enabling Hudson to extract more usable refrigerant from each pound recovered.
Ken Gaglione, President and CEO of Hudson Technologies, said the agreement supports a strategy to expand beyond traditional refrigerant sales and reclamation into "a premier technology-driven platform for recovery, purification, and separation services."
Dr. Kalin Baca, co-Founder and CEO of Icorium, said the collaboration may "open meaningful commercialization pathways in the continued development of a circular refrigerant supply chain."
Icorium was founded in 2022 as a spinout from the University of Kansas and is headquartered at KU Innovation Park in Lawrence, Kan. The company has received National Science Foundation funding and multiple startup awards.
