Sift, a data infrastructure platform for hardware systems, has announced a partnership with QNX, a division of BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB), to enable near real-time telemetry streaming from QNX-powered embedded systems.
Under the integration, engineers can stream live sensor data from devices running QNX OS 8.0 directly into Sift's platform using existing MQTT broker connections, with each data message queryable via standard SQL within one second of leaving the device. The integration requires no changes to firmware or software already running on the device.
QNX technology is embedded in more than 275 million vehicles worldwide and is used by automotive manufacturers including BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and Volkswagen, among others. The operating system is also used in robotic systems, industrial automation, and medical devices.
Sift places telemetry from multiple subsystems on a single timeline, allowing engineers to cross-reference fault events against preceding system conditions or compare data across multiple units in a fleet.
"QNX runs the machines the world cannot afford to get wrong," said Austin Spiegel, Co-Founder and CEO of Sift. "A team should be able to plug in on day one and spend their time engineering, not building telemetry plumbing, and that is exactly what this partnership delivers."
Romain Saha, Senior Director of Strategic Alliances at QNX, said the integration offers customers "a validated, low-friction path from a QNX-powered device to real-time analysis."
Sift is available for teams working with QNX systems, according to the companies' joint announcement.
