MicroVision, Inc. (NASDAQ: MVIS) announced that its IRIS long-range lidar sensor has been selected by an undisclosed developer of off-road autonomous ground systems for defense applications, according to a company press release.
The contract involves integrating IRIS sensors into heavy military vehicles. The customer's identity and specific contract terms were not disclosed, with MicroVision citing confidentiality.
The IRIS sensor operates at a 1550 nm wavelength, which the company says makes it invisible to night vision goggles. The solid-state sensor is designed for long-range detection and high-resolution perception in off-road conditions.
"Being selected for integration into advanced autonomous ground vehicle applications represents an important validation of IRIS and its capabilities in demanding defense environments," said Glen DeVos, Chief Executive Officer of MicroVision.
MicroVision, based in Redmond, WA, with engineering centers in the U.S. and Germany, targets three markets: industrial, security and defense, and automotive. The company offers both short- and long-range lidar products.
