Better Mortgage (NASDAQ: BETR) and Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) announced that Coinbase One members are eligible for a lender-funded rebate equal to 1% of an approved Better home equity line of credit (HELOC), up to $10,000. The benefit launched Aug. 12, 2026, and the rebate is funded solely by Better, reflected on the borrower's closing disclosure.
The announcement expands an existing partnership between the two companies. Better CEO Daniel Lewis said the extension to HELOCs is intended to support members "not only when they purchase a home, but also when they want to access the equity they have built."
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, outstanding U.S. HELOC balances reached $459 billion in the second quarter of 2026, marking the 17th consecutive quarterly increase, with balances rising $13 billion during the quarter and $48 billion year over year.
Experian research cited in the press release shows fintech HELOC originations grew 140.2% between 2023 and 2025. Better reported its own HELOC originations grew 45% quarter-over-quarter and 23% year-over-year to $294 million in the second quarter of 2026, representing 18% of its total loan volume, up from 12% in the first quarter of 2026.
Ben Shen, Head of Financial Services & Loyalty Products at Coinbase, said the combination of home equity access through Better and a rebate "keeps more capital in our customers' hands."
