Novo Nordisk and Anthropic announce R&D collaboration
Novo Nordisk and Anthropic announced a collaboration aimed at accelerating drug discovery and AI-driven software development, according to a press release issued Sept. 16, 2026.
Under the agreement, Novo Nordisk will use Anthropic's frontier models and Claude Science platform to support biological reasoning and advance scientific workflows within its research and development organization. The companies said they will jointly address drug discovery challenges identified by Novo's scientists and computational teams.
Novo Nordisk will also apply Anthropic's models to AI-driven software engineering, which the company described as a key enabler for scaling AI across its operations.
Mike Doustdar, president and CEO of Novo Nordisk, said in the release: "AI can help us increase productivity in R&D and compress the path from research to marketed product. But beyond this, AI tools can also offer completely new scientific opportunities and aid reasoning and understanding of human biology and drug mechanics."
Dario Amodei, co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, said: "By giving leading researchers access to safe, capable, and trusted frontier models, we can shorten research timelines, improve outcomes, and discover medicines and treatments that significantly improve human life."
As an initial step, Novo Nordisk will test Claude Science on specific R&D workflows where the two companies believe their combined capabilities will have the most impact. The collaboration includes data governance protocols and human oversight measures, the companies said.
