Calian and SkyFall partner on drone training for NATO and allies
Calian Group Ltd. (TSX: CGY) and Ukrainian unmanned systems company SkyFall announced a strategic partnership on Sept. 16, 2026, to develop and deliver drone training programs for the armed forces of Canada, the United Kingdom, NATO members and allied nations.
The agreement combines SkyFall Academy, a training center certified by Ukraine's Ministry of Defence that has trained more than 30,000 Ukrainian military personnel over the past three years, with Calian's military training infrastructure, which has supported more than 300,000 personnel across the Canadian Armed Forces, the British Army and NATO over more than four decades.
Under the partnership, SkyFall will contribute its unmanned systems technology, operational experience and training capabilities, while Calian will apply its expertise in designing and delivering international military training, simulation and large-scale readiness programs within NATO-aligned frameworks. The collaboration will also support the international expansion of SkyFall Academy into partner countries.
"Ukraine has demonstrated the speed at which unmanned systems, tactics and countermeasures can evolve in modern conflict," said Patrick Houston, CEO of Calian. "Learning directly from SkyFall's experience in Ukraine will strengthen the expertise of our instructors and help ensure military personnel are prepared for the realities of modern operations."
Mykola Makovieiev, Director of SkyFall, said the partnership expands Ukraine's access to NATO-aligned training standards and supports deeper integration of Ukrainian technological and training capabilities into the broader defense ecosystem.
The announcement follows the signing of a 100-Year Partnership declaration and a Joint Declaration on Enhancement of Defence and Security Cooperation between Ukraine and Canada. Calian is headquartered in Ottawa and employs more than 6,000 people worldwide.
