September 15, 2026 4:03 PM EDT

Planet Labs Germany, a subsidiary of Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL), has been awarded a satellite services contract by Germany's Federal Ministry of the Interior, with a maximum possible value of €25 million over five years, according to a press release from the company.

Under the agreement, the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) will coordinate and distribute high-resolution satellite imagery, nationwide Planet Mosaics, and geospatial analytics to German civil government authorities. The contract includes exclusive dedicated satellite tasking capabilities and a cloud-native software platform deployed on European cloud infrastructure.

The press release states Germany is the first civil government to acquire Planet's dedicated Constellation Services. The contract does not alter financial guidance previously issued by Planet management on September 3, 2026.

BKG president Prof. Dr. Steffen Schön said the agreement gives Germany "exclusive access to dedicated satellite tasking for the first time at the federal civil level." Planet's satellite data currently supports more than 400 federal institutions in Germany, a relationship that began in 2021.

The contract covers applications including urban planning, forest and water monitoring, and agricultural and land-use assessments. The platform will be hosted on European infrastructure to align with European data privacy regulations.

Planet also announced its European headquarters in Berlin will relocate to a new facility later this fall, consolidating satellite manufacturing, engineering, mission operations, and data processing operations.
