Varonis Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRNS) launched a new product called Data Lifecycle Management (DLM) on Sept. 15, 2026, designed to automatically identify and remove redundant, obsolete, and trivial data across enterprise storage environments.
The new capability is built on the Varonis Data Security Platform and uses data classification, access context, and activity monitoring to determine which data can be safely deleted. According to the company, up to 30% of enterprise data falls into the redundant, obsolete, or trivial category, contributing to higher storage costs, broader security exposure, and potential regulatory compliance issues under frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA.
Varonis DLM provides a single dashboard showing total redundant data volume, duplicate file clusters, stale files, and data past its retention window. The tool can filter results by data source, sensitivity, topic, and owner. It also identifies redundant data in media files, installers, DLLs, and archives — file types that text-based classification tools may not cover.
Configurable policies can automatically quarantine data that falls outside defined legal retention windows. The company states that all actions are reversible and that users select which copy to retain before any data is moved or removed.
"Every enterprise is sitting on data that's costing them money and adding risk, and AI will only multiply that risk and make it harder to manage at scale," said David Bass, Executive VP of Engineering and CTO at Varonis.
Varonis Data Lifecycle Management is available immediately.
