Sanofi to transfer 20 medicines and 3 plants to Cheplapharm

September 14, 2026 9:04 AM EDT

Sanofi (EURONEXT: SAN, NASDAQ: SNY) and Cheplapharm announced a planned strategic partnership under which Cheplapharm would acquire 20 mature medicines and three manufacturing sites from Sanofi. In return, Sanofi would receive a 26.4% equity stake in Cheplapharm, according to a press release issued September 14, 2026.

The three manufacturing sites to be transferred include a facility in Csanyikvölgy, Hungary, employing approximately 400 people; a site in Jurong, Singapore, with around 100 employees; and a location in Ploërmel, France, with approximately 65 employees. Existing employment arrangements and collective agreements would be maintained at all three sites.

The medicines being transferred include Lovenox/Clexane (enoxaparin), excluding the U.S. market. Cheplapharm is a Germany-based, family-owned pharmaceutical company specializing in well-established originator medicines, holding 3,440 marketing authorizations across 160 countries.

The commercial transfer of the medicine portfolio is planned to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with site transfers to follow, subject to employee consultation procedures, regulatory approvals, and customary closing conditions. The transaction is expected to be fully completed by the third quarter of 2027.

Sanofi stated the transaction is not expected to affect its financial guidance for 2026. Additional financial details are expected to be provided at a later stage.

Thomas Grenier, Executive Vice President of General Medicines at Sanofi, said the deal "significantly builds on prior acquisitions from Sanofi's mature medicines portfolio" by Cheplapharm, which has been a partner since 2014. Cheplapharm Co-CEOs Edeltraud Lafer and Sebastian Braun described the deal as "a long-term pharmaceutical and industrial commitment" to invest in the transferred sites and preserve manufacturing capabilities.
