Evercore: SpaceX prepares for first orbital Starship flight, faces power crisis

Investing.com -- SpaceX filed with the FCC for Flight 14, which would mark the first orbital flight for the Starship program, according to Evercore. The flight would represent the point where Starship begins adding usable Starlink capacity instead of only proving out the technology.

Elon Musk told G20 technology ministers that AI faces a "crisis of power" and described electricity rather than GPUs as the binding constraint. SpaceX's move into turbine casting in Bastrop supports this view, though Evercore sees the foundry as a 2028 or later solution rather than a near-term fix. Mobile generation and purchased turbines remain the more relevant bridge to the 2027 compute ramp.

SB Energy's Form S-1 filing provides an external marker for how AI companies and suppliers are committing capital for access to future powered capacity. SpaceX replaced several data center leaders this week. The reliability issues reported at existing facilities put more scrutiny on whether the company can maintain its speed while building in the redundancy and resilience large external customers require.
