Quantinuum and Aramco sign MOU to explore quantum computing uses
Quantinuum and Aramco have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore quantum computing applications in the energy sector, according to a press release issued Sept. 3, 2026, from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Under the agreement, the two companies plan to conduct preliminary technical onboarding, exchange knowledge, and identify operational challenges at Aramco that may be suited to quantum computing research. Areas of focus include complex problems related to energy and digital transformation.
The MOU also establishes a framework to assess how future quantum systems might address scientific and industrial challenges and to benchmark different quantum computing approaches, with the goal of preparing for a potential fault-tolerant quantum computing research collaboration.
"Organizations that expect to benefit from quantum computing need to begin developing their expertise, algorithms and workflows today," said Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, President and CEO of Quantinuum. "This MOU creates a framework for Quantinuum and Aramco to exchange expertise, identify important industrial challenges and prepare for a deeper research collaboration."
The agreement is described as non-binding, and no financial terms were disclosed.
