Xanadu Quantum Technologies Limited (NASDAQ: XNDU) released an updated technology roadmap on Aug. 31, 2026, outlining projected milestones for its photonic quantum computing platform through the end of the decade.
The Toronto-based company is targeting a reduction in its key photon loss indicator from 24.1x to 1.0x by 2030, which it says is necessary to cross the error-correction threshold required for fault-tolerant quantum computing. Logical error rates are targeted to improve to 10⁻16 by 2030, compared to roughly 10⁻3–10⁻8 projected for 2028.
The roadmap outlines the following projected milestones: construction of a Qubit Factory from 2026 to 2027, a fault tolerance milestone between 2028 and 2029, up to 200 logical qubits by 2029, up to 500 by 2030, and more than 1,000 by 2031. A quantum data center is targeted for 2029 to 2030. The company also said it targets meaningful end-customer commercialization by 2029 to 2030.
"We've cut our loss ratio dramatically, and that progress is what gives us confidence in reaching fault tolerance in 2028-2029," said Christian Weedbrook, Founder and CEO of Xanadu.
Xanadu also provided metrics for its open-source software platform, PennyLane, citing usage by 30.8% of developers surveyed over the past year, approximately 1.1 million package installs per month, and more than 150 university partners across 35 countries.
According to the press release, Xanadu reported approximately $686 million in total available funding as of June 30, 2026, comprising $312.8 million in cash, $232.8 million in remaining capacity under a synthetic at-the-market equity facility with Yorkville Advisors, and approximately $140.2 million in confirmed Government of Canada funding under Project OPTIMISM.
The company is also building a 158,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Toronto called Inception to support photonic integrated circuit packaging and module assembly.
