Garmin (NYSE: GRMN) has introduced the fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro multisport GPS smartwatches, with the Pro model featuring the first titanium case in the fēnix line. Both watches are available now.
The fēnix 9 starts at $999.99 and is offered in 43mm, 47mm and 51mm sizes. The fēnix 9 Pro starts at $1,099.99 and is also available in all three sizes. The fēnix 9 delivers up to 29 days of battery life in smartwatch mode, while the fēnix 9 Pro offers up to 31 days, with solar-charging models reaching up to 57 days under specified conditions.
Both models include an AMOLED display, a new Garmin Epic feature that groups multiple activities into a shareable story within Garmin Connect, and updated stamina tracking tools including stamina zones and stamina curve. The watches offer 64 GB of memory and routable maps with a map engine the company says is 30% faster at panning than the fēnix 8.
The fēnix 9 Pro adds satellite and LTE connectivity on select models, enabling voice calls, text messaging and SOS communication without a phone. An active plan is required, and LTE coverage is not available in all regions. The 51mm Pro model includes a 1.5-inch AMOLED display with up to 3,000 nits of brightness, which Garmin says extends the display area by 15% over the fēnix 8 without increasing case size.
Additional features on the fēnix 9 include expanded rucking support, indoor rowing metrics requiring a power meter-equipped machine, and a new perspective map view. The fēnix 9 Pro adds a green flashlight mode for night vision preservation and solar charging options on select models.
New ComfortFit accessory bands with QuickFit compatibility are available for both models.
