Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) has launched Xfinity Shield, a home protection platform that combines cybersecurity, physical monitoring and family safety tools into a single app experience for Xfinity Internet customers.
The platform has two tiers. WiFi Shield is included at no additional cost for Xfinity Internet customers with Advanced Xfinity Gateways and offers three features: Xfinity CyberSecure, which filters threats at the network level before they reach connected devices; WiFi Motion, an opt-in feature that detects motion inside the home using radio frequency signals from the Xfinity Gateway without cameras or recording; and Family Settings, which allows parents to manage screen time, pause WiFi and set device schedules.
The second tier, Shield Select, costs $15 per month and adds an indoor camera, door and window sensors, cloud video storage and 24/7 emergency response access. Its cameras use AI to identify people, pets, vehicles and package deliveries.
According to the company, the average Xfinity customer connects 36 devices to WiFi, and Comcast says it currently blocks an average of 30 million threats per day across its network.
Xfinity Shield became available August 18. Comcast said additional capabilities are planned for 2027.
"We believe the network should do more than connect devices. It should help protect the people, their personal information, and everything within their homes," said Jon Gieselman, Chief Growth Officer, Connectivity & Platforms, Comcast.
