LG Electronics and Nvidia deepen robotics partnership in Seoul

LG Electronics and Nvidia are expanding their robotics collaboration, with senior officials from both companies meeting at LG's Data Factory, currently under construction at the company's Yangjae R&D Campus in Seoul.

LG Group and Nvidia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for strategic collaboration on Aug. 13 at Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, California. Four days later, executives reconvened at LG's Data Factory to review the collaboration's direction and discuss commercialization of the robotics business.

The Data Factory, spanning four floors with a total area of 10,000 square meters, is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2026 and is expected to house several hundred robots by that time. The facility includes training spaces, data validation areas, a replicated home environment, and a simulated manufacturing space modeled on LG's washing machine plant in Tennessee.

LG has deployed its self-developed LG CLOiD home robots at the facility to generate and collect data. Nvidia's technologies involved in the collaboration include Nvidia Omniverse libraries, Nvidia Cosmos open world models, and the Nvidia Isaac robotics development platform.

By year-end, training and synthetically generated data collected at the facility are expected to total 100,000 hours, equivalent to approximately 12 years of data. LG said it plans to use this data to advance its Robot Foundation Model, which it says underpins the performance of humanoid robots.

LG established a dedicated Robotics Business Center last month, reporting directly to the CEO, to oversee its companywide robotics operations. The company said it plans to expand from industrial and commercial robotics into home robotics.

"Through the synergy built on 'One LG' — bringing together core capabilities across the Group — and strategic collaboration with global partners, we will secure our competitiveness in physical AI and become a comprehensive robotics solutions provider," said Lyu Jae-cheol, CEO of LG Electronics.

LG Electronics reported global revenue of over KRW 89 trillion in 2025.
