PTC (NASDAQ: PTC) announced the availability of the FeatureScript MCP Server, a new capability within its Onshape CAD and product data management platform, according to a company statement released Aug. 13, 2026.
The tool, available through the Onshape Labs initiative, allows engineers to create custom CAD features using natural language commands. AI models, including Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini, connect directly with Onshape's FeatureScript programming language through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to help build, test, debug, and refine custom features.
FeatureScript is Onshape's existing programming language for CAD automation. The new server extends its capabilities to AI coding models, enabling engineers without programming experience to create reusable design tools. Once created, these tools can be shared across teams and reused without additional AI interactions.
"The future of AI in CAD is not simply text-to-CAD, but text-to-code-to-CAD," said David Katzman, EVP and General Manager of Onshape and Arena at PTC.
Jeff Hojlo, Research Vice President at IDC, commented on the announcement: "The significance of this announcement isn't that AI can generate another CAD model. It's that AI is being used to create engineering capability."
The FeatureScript MCP Server is accessible through the Onshape App Store. PTC, headquartered in Boston, employs over 7,000 people and serves more than 30,000 customers globally.
