Rocket Lab wins $397M Space Force satellite contract

Rocket Lab Corporation (Nasdaq: RKLB) has been awarded a $397 million contract by the United States Space Force to develop, launch, and operate a constellation of flat satellites, known as Flatellites, under the Space-Based Airborne Moving Target Indicator (SB-AMTI) program.

Under the contract, Rocket Lab will build multiple Flatellites equipped with space-based sensors and low-latency, high-bandwidth communication links. The satellites are to be launched aboard the company's upcoming Neutron rocket and operated from secure facilities. The contract includes an option for additional Flatellites, which is factored into the total contract value.

The SB-AMTI program is led by the Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Space-Based Sensing and Targeting and is designed to provide the U.S. military with persistent, real-time tracking of airborne threats from space. The program integrates space-based sensors, artificial intelligence-driven ground processing, and secure communications.

Rocket Lab founder and CEO Sir Peter Beck said the company's capabilities "uniquely position us to deliver innovative solutions that meet the urgent needs of the Space Force."

The contract covers satellite design, manufacturing, launch, and on-orbit operations. According to a press release from Rocket Lab, the award reflects the company's vertically integrated business model, which spans the full spectrum of space system delivery.
