Claritev led non-payer IDR filings as U.S. dispute volume surged

Claritev Corporation (NYSE: CTEV) handled more federal Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) claims in 2025 than any other non-payer participant, according to data released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Federal IDR disputes under the No Surprises Act totaled more than 2.5 million in 2025, up from 1.5 million in 2024. Total IDR awards exceeded $15 billion in 2025, more than triple the amount awarded the prior year. The law was originally projected to generate fewer than 20,000 disputes annually.

According to CMS public use files and internal Claritev data, the company's clients' offers were selected in 20% of applicable determinations in 2025, compared with 12% industrywide. In the fourth quarter, that rate rose to 24%, versus 15% industrywide.

Claritev reported managing approximately 270,000 federal IDR arbitrations and negotiating approximately 400,000 post-payment disputes in 2025. The company also priced more than 1 million claims using the qualifying payment amount methodology before disputes entered federal IDR.

Claritev's internal NSA Trend Report found that nearly 50% of 2025 filings reviewed by the company raised potential federal eligibility issues.

"The No Surprises Act and federal IDR process were created to protect patients while giving payers and providers a path to resolve payment disputes without placing that burden on the patient," said Travis Dalton, CEO and President of Claritev.

The No Surprises Act protects insured patients from certain unexpected out-of-network bills and limits their cost-sharing responsibility. Disputes filed between July and December 2025 totaled 1.4 million, a 16% increase over the first half of the year.
