AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) and Applied Intuition, Inc. announced a strategic teaming agreement to integrate Applied Intuition's Acuity ISR/Strike software into AeroVironment's Mayhem 10 launched effects system, according to a press release from the companies.
Under the agreement, the Acuity ISR/Strike software will enable autonomous collaborative hunter-killer and swarm operations on the Mayhem 10 platform, allowing multiple units to find, track, and engage targets under the supervision of a single operator in contested environments.
The collaboration is designed to support the U.S. Army's Launched Effects program and is intended to scale across short, medium, and long range launched effects requirements.
"Mayhem 10 isn't just a munition. It's an architecture," said Brian Young, Senior Vice President of Loitering Munitions at AeroVironment. "That allows us to integrate multiple payloads like EO/IR sensors, electronic warfare packages, communications relays, and lethal effects onto a single platform. It also allows us to bring in third-party software and autonomy much more quickly, treating capability more like an application than a fixed feature set."
"Our Acuity ISR/Strike software brings collaborative autonomy to Mayhem 10, rapidly delivering next-generation capabilities through platform-agnostic software with operator oversight," said Jason Brown, General Manager of Applied Intuition.
The companies said they conducted a demonstration validating the integration, during which multiple Mayhem 10 systems executed collaborative autonomy behaviors including synchronization and swarm maneuvers. The demonstration followed months of integration work conducted across multiple locations using AeroVironment's Autonomy Interface Control Document.
The Mayhem 10 system carries a 10-pound payload, operates at ranges exceeding 100 kilometers with more than 50 minutes of endurance, and can be assembled and launched in under five minutes. It uses a Modular Open Systems Approach to allow third-party payload and software integration.
Applied Intuition, founded in 2017, is privately held and valued at $15 billion, according to the press release.
