Koch said to explore sale of data center firm Edged for over $15B
Investing.com -- Koch Inc. is considering a sale of Edged, the data center developer it cofounded, in a transaction that could exceed $15 billion, according to a Bloomberg report Tuesday.
The company has engaged Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to assess buyer interest and has received multiple bids, the report said. Discussions remain ongoing and no final agreement has been reached.
Koch established Edged alongside entrepreneur Jakob Carnemark to develop, construct and operate data centers using a waterless cooling system. The firm currently runs seven data centers, including a 169-megawatt facility in Atlanta, with additional projects in development.
Growing demand from major technology companies for computing power and capacity has accelerated data center construction worldwide. Large institutional investors have increased their involvement in funding these projects.
BlackRock Inc. has partnered with Meta Platforms Inc. on a 1-gigawatt data center project in Texas requiring approximately $14 billion in development costs. KKR & Co. secured more than $10 billion to create a company focused on designing, building and operating AI infrastructure. Blackstone Inc. filed for an initial public offering of a new data center acquisition vehicle earlier this year.
