Boeing misses second quarter EPS despite revenue beat

Investing.com -- Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) reported a wider-than-expected second quarter loss despite revenue exceeding analyst estimates, with shares rising 1.2% following the results.



The aerospace manufacturer posted an adjusted loss of -$0.76 per share for the second quarter, missing the analyst consensus of -$0.29 per share. Revenue increased 8% YoY to $24.6 billion, surpassing the estimate of $23.95 billion. The company delivered 171 commercial aircraft during the quarter, up from 150 in the prior year period.


Boeing generated operating cash flow of $1.4 billion and free cash flow of $0.6 billion in the quarter. The company's total backlog reached a record $715 billion, including over 6,200 commercial airplanes.


"I'm very pleased with the progress our team is making as we execute our plan. Our operations are more stable and key certification programs remain on plan," said Kelly Ortberg, Boeing president and chief executive officer.


Commercial Airplanes revenue rose 8% to $11.8 billion, though the segment posted an operating loss with margins of -2.7%. The 737 program began transitioning to a production rate of 47 per month during the quarter. Boeing completed certification flight testing on both the 737-7 and 737-10, with certification anticipated in 2026 and first delivery in 2027 for both variants.


Defense, Space & Security revenue increased 13% to $7.5 billion, but operating margins were -0.2%, reflecting $280 million in losses on the VC-25B program. Global Services revenue was $5.3 billion with operating margins of 18.1%.
