VA awards Salesforce a $1.6B contract for veteran services

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded Salesforce (NYSE: CRM) a contract valued at up to $1.6 billion to modernize its care and service delivery systems, according to a statement from Salesforce.

The agreement, structured as a one-year Agentic Enterprise License Agreement with options for two additional one-year renewals, will be delivered through Salesforce's Missionforce government unit. The total contract ceiling is $1.6 billion.

Under the contract, VA will deploy AI tools, integrated data platforms, and collaboration software across the department. Salesforce's Slack platform is already deployed across more than 150 VA medical and outpatient centers. VA's 24/7 clinical contact center, VA Health Connect, powered by Salesforce, has handled more than 40.6 million veteran calls since deployment.

The VA serves more than 17 million veterans and their families across 170 medical centers and more than 1,100 outpatient clinics. The department provided more than 82 million direct-care appointments in 2025.

One stated goal of the agreement is to reduce the average time required to schedule an appointment from 28 days to minutes, once fully deployed, by expanding VA's Unified Patient Scheduling initiative across more than 40,000 provider services nationwide.

The contract also includes deployment of FedRAMP High-authorized and HIPAA-ready AI agents, along with data integration tools MuleSoft and Data 360, and analytics platform Tableau.

"Every minute a VA employee spends navigating disconnected systems is a minute not spent serving a Veteran," said Kendall Collins, CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud at Salesforce.

Salesforce noted the new agreement builds on an existing relationship with VA spanning more than a decade, which includes the modernization of the Veterans Crisis Line and the SQUARES eligibility system used by more than 2,100 authorized users.
