Viking Therapeutics adds Dorothy Gemmell to its board of directors

Viking Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: VKTX) announced the appointment of Dorothy Gemmell to its board of directors, effective immediately, according to a company press release.

Gemmell has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare, digital health, and commercialization. She has held president or chief commercial officer roles at companies including GoodRx, Capsule, and Havas Life. She also advises venture- and private equity-backed companies on go-to-market strategies, enterprise sales, and commercialization. She holds a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from McGill University.

Brian Lian, Ph.D., chief executive officer of Viking Therapeutics, said in the statement: "Dorothy joins our Board as Viking advances its next-generation therapies, prepares for VK2735's potential launch, and strengthens our commercialization capabilities."

Viking's lead drug candidate, VK2735, is a dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical studies for obesity. The company is also conducting a Phase 1 study on maintenance dosing strategies for long-term weight management.
