Nexstar Media Group (NASDAQ: NXST) announced plans to launch daily primetime newscasts in Dallas and Phoenix starting in mid-August, expanding local news coverage in two of the country's top-12 television markets.
In Dallas, the newscasts will air at 9 p.m. local time on KDAF-TV (CW33), which Nexstar owns. In Phoenix, the same 9 p.m. timeslot will be used on KAZT-TV (CW7 Arizona), a station Nexstar operates under a Time Brokerage Agreement. Both stations are affiliated with The CW Network, and the newscasts will follow CW programming seven days a week.
"We're excited to launch daily primetime newscasts in two of the country's top-12 markets and provide viewers with a new outlet for news and information that didn't exist previously," said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar's broadcasting division.
