Uganda Airlines orders four 737-8 and four 787-9 Boeing jets

Uganda Airlines has placed its first-ever order with Boeing (NYSE: BA), purchasing four 737-8 and four 787-9 aircraft to expand and modernize its fleet, the companies announced at the Farnborough Airshow on July 21, 2026.

The 737-8 jets, configured for 160 to 180 passengers with a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles, are intended to serve the airline's intra-Africa routes as well as flights to the Middle East and India. The 787-9 aircraft, with a range of up to 8,300 nautical miles, will be used on longer routes to the Middle East, Asia, and Europe.

According to the press release, the eight aircraft combined are expected to reduce fuel use by 20 to 25% compared to the planes they replace.

Uganda Airlines CEO Ato Girma Wake said the order is part of a broader goal to position Entebbe as a regional aviation hub. "The aircraft will strengthen our ability to connect Uganda more efficiently to regional, continental and international markets, while supporting trade, tourism, investment and cargo development," Wake said.

Brad McMullen, Boeing's senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, said the company was pleased to welcome Uganda Airlines as a customer.

Uganda Airlines currently operates flights to 17 destinations across 13 countries from its hub in Entebbe. The carrier, which began operations in 2019, provides passenger and cargo services across East Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe.
