Boeing (NYSE: BA) released its 2026 Services Market Outlook and Pilot & Technician Outlook on July 18, forecasting a $4.9 trillion commercial aviation support and services market and demand for more than 2.4 million new aviation professionals through 2045.
The workforce projection includes approximately 674,000 pilots, 728,000 maintenance technicians, and 1,023,000 cabin crew members. According to Boeing, two-thirds of that demand will stem from retiring personnel, while one-third will be driven by fleet growth.
Boeing's outlook identifies several trends it expects to shape the services market, including aircraft lifecycle management, increased digitalization, geographic shifts in services demand, and workforce transformation driven by retirements.
By region, Eurasia accounts for the largest projected services and support demand at $1,185 billion, followed by North America at $995 billion and China at $875 billion. The Middle East and Southeast Asia are projected at $475 billion and $425 billion, respectively.
"As we look toward the future, we see strong demand for services across the portfolio, new opportunities as fleets become more digitally enabled and a growing need for a skilled workforce," said Chris Raymond, president and CEO of Boeing Global Services.
Boeing also noted that near-term disruptions are not expected to affect long-term aviation growth, with commercial air traffic demand projected to double over the next 20 years, according to its 2026 Commercial Market Outlook.
