Citizens Financial Group expands president Coughlin's role to include commercial banking

July 8, 2026 4:30 PM EDT

Citizens Financial Group (NYSE: CFG) announced that Brendan Coughlin, President of Citizens, has assumed oversight of Commercial Banking, adding to responsibilities that already include Consumer Banking, Private Bank, and Wealth businesses, as well as several enterprise functions.

Ted Swimmer, who was named Head of Commercial Banking in October 2025, will continue to lead that business and report to Coughlin. Swimmer has overseen the bank's corporate banking, private capital, commercial real estate, treasury and wholesale payments, and capital markets and advisory operations.

Coughlin, a 20-plus-year Citizens veteran, was named President in April 2025. He also oversees Marketing and Enterprise Data & Analytics, and leads the bank's "Reimagine the Bank" initiative, a multi-year effort focused on simplifying operations, modernizing core processes and technology, and improving customer and colleague experience.

"Brendan has consistently shown he can take on broader responsibilities and deliver impressive results, and adding Commercial Banking to his remit is a natural next step in broadening and deepening his experience across all aspects of the bank," said Bruce Van Saun, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citizens.

Citizens Financial Group reported $227.9 billion in assets as of March 31, 2026, and is headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island.
