U.S. crude and petroleum exports hit record in April
Investing.com -- The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday that U.S. crude and petroleum exports reached a record level in April as disrupted energy flows through the Strait of Hormuz due to the Iran war increased demand for U.S. exports.
Total exports in April climbed to a record 13.6 million barrels per day, marking a 15% increase from the previous record set in March.
Crude oil exports represented the largest portion of total petroleum exports, averaging 5.6 million bpd in April. This figure was 21% higher than the previous record established in December 2023.
Propane exports accounted for the second-largest share of record exports in April, surpassing 2.0 million bpd for the first time in monthly data, according to the EIA.
Distillate fuel oil exports made up the third-largest share of U.S. exports during the same period, rising to 1.6 million bpd. This represented the highest level since July 2017, based on EIA data.
U.S. exports of finished petroleum products, which include distillate fuel oil, motor gasoline, jet fuel, and petroleum coke, reached their highest levels since December 2024.
