Takeda Pharmaceutical (NYSE: TAK) has appointed Julie Kim as Representative Director, President and Chief Executive Officer, completing an 18-month CEO transition process, according to a company statement.
Shareholders elected Kim as an internal director to the Board of Directors at Takeda's 150th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, held in Osaka, Japan. Following the vote, the board formally appointed her to the top executive role. Former President and CEO Christophe Weber retired from the company and the board upon conclusion of the meeting, ending 12 years of service.
Kim joined Takeda in 2019 through the acquisition of Shire. She previously held roles including president of the Plasma-Derived Therapies Business Unit and president of the U.S. Business Unit, before being named CEO-elect in 2025. She has more than three decades of global healthcare experience.
Shareholders also elected three new external directors: Bruce Broussard, Koichiro Kimura and Dr. Paul Stoffels. Broussard and Kimura were assigned to the Audit and Supervisory Committee, with Kimura serving as its head. Stoffels was named as a substitute Audit and Supervisory Committee member.
Following the annual meeting, Takeda's board now consists of 11 members, eight of whom are external directors. All committee chairs — for the Audit and Supervisory, Nomination and Compensation committees — are external directors. Masami Iijima continues as chair of the Board of Directors meeting.
