Rain Enhancement Technologies reports water cost of $10 per acre-foot

June 9, 2026 9:30 AM EDT

Rain Enhancement Technologies Holdco, Inc. (NASDAQ: RAIN) reported that its Weather Enhancement Technology Array produced water at $10 per acre-foot during winter operations in Utah's La Sal Mountains. The company stated this cost is more than 95 percent lower than conventional water supply alternatives.

The ground-based ionization system operated from mid-November 2025 through March 2026, producing an estimated 8,750 acre-feet of incremental water. The company said this amount represents approximately 2.85 billion gallons, sufficient to supply roughly 26,000 households for one year.

According to the company, the system achieved more than 20 percent Snow Water Equivalent enhancement across the winter season, as measured against control sites in the nearby Abajo Mountains. Three statistical methods confirmed the results, which occurred during what the company described as the driest winter on record.

Dr. Binod Pokharel of Utah State University reviewed and validated the results. "The results from this season are consistent with precipitation enhancement due to ionization," Pokharel said.

The company compared its costs to conventional water supply alternatives. According to Rain Enhancement Technologies, recycled water starts at $180 per acre-foot, demand management programs cost approximately $390 per acre-foot, and desalination ranges from $800 to $1,400 per acre-foot for coastal installations.

Chief Executive Officer Randy Seidl stated that the technology deploys in weeks from a single ground-based installation and operates without chemicals or on-site personnel. The system covers 100 square miles and requires no aircraft for operation.

Rain Enhancement Technologies develops ionization precipitation generation technology for addressing water scarcity. The company said additional instrumentation is planned for 2026, with year-round operations targeting warm-season precipitation ongoing.
