Bessent urges China to step up diplomacy with Iran on Strait of Hormuz
Investing.com -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Monday that Washington will monitor whether China increases diplomatic efforts with Iran to encourage Tehran to open the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking on Fox News Channel's "America's Newsroom," Bessent said he would urge Chinese officials to join the U.S. in supporting the opening of the Strait.
Bessent revealed that President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have discussed Iran during their phone calls.
The Treasury Secretary also commented on the upcoming Beijing summit, describing it as an opportunity for Trump and Xi to exchange views and advance consensus from an agreement reached last year in South Korea.
