Past salesforce.com (NYSE: CRM) takeover targets were exposed by a hacked Colin Powell e-mail from DCLeaks, the Wall Street Journal notes.
A presentation found in the salesforce Director and former Secretary of State e-mails titled 'M&A Target Review' showed that before the company was interested in Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) it had identified 14 possible targets.
Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE), which has a market value larger than salesforce, and Pegasystems (NASDAQ: PEGA) were two of the companies identified.
Demandware, which the company agreed to acquire in June, and LinkedIn (NYSE: LNKD), which was acquired by Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), were also on the list.
ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW) and Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA) were also on the list.
Tableau was marked "In Play" on the list, along with other companies that have since been sold.
Several companies on the list that have since been sold included: Marketo, NetSuite, Qlik Technologies.
Box Inc. (NYSE: BOX) and Zendesk Inc. (NYSE: ZEN) appear on the list with the note "CEO has no interest." Workday (NYSE: WDAY) is noted as "less interested."
Veeva Systems (NYSE: VEEV) was also listed without any notes.
