Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) is said to be testing real-time sports updates in its Messenger platform.
TheNextWeb noted Wednesday that one user spotted the test while chatting with a friend about the upcoming New York Mets versus Kansas City Royals baseball game. Messenger offered a pop-up box asking if the user wanted further game updates. After subscribing, both users were able to see the updates.
This is another way that Facebook is looking to grab and retain users from Twitter (NYSE: TWTR), which has updates that only appear for one user at a time.
Shares of Facebook are moderately lower, while Twitter is down over 9 percent Wednesday.
