IMF, Islamabad open talks for a new loan, says Pakistan finance ministry May 13, 2024 01:24PM

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission has opened discussions with Islamabad on a new loan programme, a Pakistan finance ministry statement said on Monday.

The mission chief, Nathan Porter, met Pakistan's Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb to "kick-start the discussions on further engagement with the fund."

Director Mohammad Rasoulof flees Iran ahead of Cannes premiere May 13, 2024 01:17PM

CANNES (Reuters) - Mohammad Rasoulof, a celebrated Iranian director whose latest film is competing in the Cannes Film Festival, has fled Iran after being sentenced to eight years in prison and flogging.

In a statement dated Sunday, Rasoulof said he was in an unspecified location in Europe. "I had to choose between prison and leaving Iran. With a heavy heart, I chose exile," it said.

(Reuters) - The U.S. pot sector could see an influx of medical research funding from healthcare investors amid renewed interest from pharmaceutical firms, should a proposal to reclassify cannabis as a lower-risk substance be approved, industry experts said.

Corporate greed not to blame for price pressures, Fed study shows May 13, 2024 01:03PM

(Reuters) - Corporate price gouging has not been a primary driver of U.S. inflation, according to research published on Monday by economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
