TOKYO (Reuters) - Mayumi Kitakata frets about the health and wellbeing of Chi, her stoic housemate who enjoys treats, indulges a bit too much in the catnip, and about 14 is getting on in years for a feline.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Asian currencies were firm on Thursday against a dollar knocked by softer-than-expected U.S. inflation, save for the yen which remained squeezed ahead of a Bank of Japan meeting and as U.S. policymakers signalled rates would be kept high for a while yet.

(Reuters) - Oil prices fell in early trade on Wednesday as investors digested news that the U.S. Federal Reserve has opted against cutting interest rates in the near future, while ample U.S. crude and fuel stocks further weighed on the market.
Brent crude futures lost 14 cents, or 0.17%, to $82.46 a barrel at 0039 GMT, and U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 16 cents, or 0.2%, to hit $78.34. Both... (continue reading...)
HONG KONG (Reuters) - China hopes the European Union will seriously reconsider tariffs for Chinese EVs and stop going further in the "wrong direction", according to a commentary in state-backed news Xinhua.
The statement comes after the European Commission said on Wednesday it will impose extra duties of up to 38.1% on imported Chinese electric cars from July.
China has said it would take measures to safeguard its interests.
